Revises Recall Directive
In
an effort to update the procedures that the USDA's Food
Safety and Inspection Service will follow during recalls
and in recognition of the new organizational structure,
FSIS has issued a revised directive. -

to Hold E. coli O157:H7 Prevention Workshops
In
order to spread information, techniques and new directives
designed to strengthen E. coli O157:H7 prevention procedures,
the Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection
Service announced it will hold a series of teaching workshops
around the country for small and very small plants.

Clarifies Canadian Beef Import Restrictions; Trim, Boneless
Beef, Veal, Liver OK
AAMP
clears up what kind of meat products can be imported from
Canada into the US, as the result of an agreement between
USDA and an American cattlemen's group. This agreement
kills a policy shift by USDA that had expanded the list
of products that could enter. USDA is being
accused of expanding that list by ignoring its own regulations.

The
Texas Suspect Cow That Was Not Tested For BSE
An
older cow that likely had a central nervous system disorder
when it arrived April 27 at the Lone Star Beef plant in
San Angelo, Texas was ordered to be destroyed, but was
