USDA Bans Import of Many Meat Products from Canada; Officials Meeting to Decide if Changes Will be Made

As the result of a court hearing, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has withdrawn import permits for all edible bovine meat products beyond those authorized by USDA's action last August.  The ban now includes trim and ground beef, but not whole muscle cuts. APHIS officials are meeting right now to decide if the ban on trim will be rolled back. - Posted on 5/4/2004 by BFS
