AAMP Convention 2021 – All eyes on Oklahoma City

Spring has arrived as daylight savings time and the melting snow has signaled the change in seasons with the promise of longer days and warmer temperatures.

This time of year gets a lot busier around the AAMP office as preparations for the annual convention, July 15-17, in Oklahoma City are in full effect. Having had to cancel the 2020 national convention due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the anticipation of this year’s show has been high among the AAMP staff and equally as high among the members. Most went without their state conventions last year, so everyone is ready to get back together and take a break from the hectic business year. Enthusiasm is building around the show as people are excited to get back to some sort of normalcy.

To date, over 60 processor plants are registered for the AAMP convention with many more expected. The trade show is also nearly sold out with over 200 booths reserved. Almost 1,500 room nights are booked at the host hotel, the Omni Oklahoma City. The discounted room block at the Omni is sold out; however, rooms may be available at the standard rate. Please contact the hotel directly for more information. We have added an overflow hotel room block at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott, which is located right next to the convention center. There is still plenty of room for everyone to come and enjoy the convention, trade show, and the American Cured Meat Championships.

We understand that the pandemic is not completely behind us and some may have fears or hesitation about getting together in large crowds. Post-pandemic mandates are very fluid right now as the country continues to open back up and vaccines become more readily available. It is hard to predict where we will be in four months, but rest assured, we will do everything we can to provide a safe environment for all attendees. We will abide by the requirements of local authorities and businesses that are hosting our event. If our hosts do not require masks, we will not require masks for attendees; however, they will be provided for those who would like them. Hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the host and overflow hotels, as well as the convention center.Ā  We continue to monitor local regulations and work with our OKC hosts on safety protocols as we move closer to the show.
