Kansas Meat Processors Association Supplier Director Wins Award but Loses Locks at Convention
A well-deserved honor was bestowed on Brad Heidebrecht at this year's Kansas Meat Processors Association annual convention. Brad, the KMPA Supplier Director, was awarded the Dr. David Schafer Distinguished Service Award for his devoted service and lasting contributions to the industry.Brad began working in sales at Walton's Inc. in 2009 and has become a welcome visitor at processing plants around the country, as well as a familiar face at KMPA and AAMP Conventions and Trade Shows. He has served as the supplier director for KMPA for 7 years and can be credited with encouraging many new processors to join the association.
During the convention, Brad also contributed (with some prodding) to the Kansas State Meat Science Scholarship. During the convention's live auction, one KMPA Board member offered several hundred dollars donation to the KSU Meat Science Scholarship if Brad would sacrifice a few inches of his flowing locks! After much negotiating, he agreed to do it, “for the kids,” if $2,000 could be raised. Bidding was fast and furious, and it didn't take long for KPMA's “family of meat people” to meet that goal and surpass it! Over $2,400 was gathered up, and Brad kept his word, allowing the on-site stylist to do the honors. This show of support for our young students studying in the meats field is just another indication of the caring, giving bunch of individuals we have in our “meat family.”
