Director of Sales

The Director of Sales will work closely with the Company President, Marketing, Research & Development, and Operations to define and execute a strategic sales plan to achieve profitable growth. This position motivates and supports sales members to meet the organizations key objectives. Reporting to the President, the Director of Sales will support the company with the responsibilities that are included below.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute a strategic plan that aligns with our company vision
  • Provide recommendations to Executive Team and other organizational leaders regarding business initiatives
  • Responsible for department budgets and effective utilization of resources to achieve optimal results
  • Responsible for performance management (candid evaluations, constructive feedback, career development, etc.) of all team members
  • Define and direct a culture that motivates employees, promotes communication, collaboration and accountability with team members and cross functional departments
  • Leads by example and demonstrates the company’s objectives of servant leadership, profitable growth, innovation, customer focus, and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Plan, direct and implement sales programs for multi-channel customer network
  • Maintains sales volumes by tracking changing market trends, economic indicators, competitors, supply and demand, and staying closely connected with key customers
  • Plan and direct sales force activities to maximize profit from all segments of the market
  • Sell the company’s products to established customers and new prospects
  • Refine and manage entire sales process from proposal to close to meet or exceed sales quotas
  • Refine and manage process to maintain sales records for leads and existing accounts
  • Collaborate with external customers and internal departments to develop solutions to profitably meet customer needs
  • Solicits and maintains contact with current and prospect key accounts; in person and by phone
  • Develop and manage multichannel and multiple company sales teams
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements Skills and Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Sales, Marketing or related discipline is required
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a sales role including at least 5 years’ experience managing sales teams and strategy
  • Prior successful sales management and customer relations in food industry is required; Experience in specialty foods, consumer packaged goods, or ingredients preferred
  • Must be customer driven with a positive attitude, show accountability and professionalism
  • Sales Broker Manager experienced preferred
  • Moderate overnight travel necessary to foster healthy relationships with customers and to encourage future sales growth
  • National travel required to attend trade shows including weekends
  • Strong computer skills, Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Excellent verbal, written, and public speaking skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact when working with cross-functional teams
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize projects and adapt to changing deadlines
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with a safe record
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
